I’ve been Hanks’d
This weekend was fantastic. Let me tell you why.
Two reasons: Gay marriage was passed in New York and I watched Apollo 13.
Let’s focus on Apollo 13.

I watched Apollo 13 on VHS, on a BIG SCREEN TV in my friend’s mom’s basement. I was 7 years old again. I think in the 90’s your status was determined by how many square feet your TV could take up in your basement. Now you hang them on your wall. Ah, how time changes bullshit that upper-middle class people care about.
But when I watched Apollo 13, something happened. When the credits began to roll I got that familiar feeling. A longing. I had a thirst, and Ron Howard had not yet quenched it with his 1995 film about astronauts that almost died, but didn’t, but then died anyway doing probably really boring stuff like not attempting to go to the moon.
I had been Hanks’d. I got 140 minutes of that fantastic acting and I only wanted more.
This has happened before. After watching Tom Hanks in Cast Away a couple of years back I proceeded to waste the rest of my Saturday by watching You’ve Got Mail…then Big.
Someone, HELP.
I can’t do less than 3 in one day. “At least 3 or None For Me” is what I always say about Tom Hanks movies. What’s your saying about Tom Hanks movies? You don’t have one? Why…not?
